                  Todays opp shop find

Vintage tea towels all pure linen, not sure what Im going to do with them as yet, sell or sew something from them.
It must of been somebodys collection there were more still at the opp shop I think I may go back and get them, collected from somebodys travels. I remember going on holidays and we would allways bring back presents from towns we visited like fridge magnets, tea towels, rulers and pens, vintage tea towels seem to be a thing of the past , I don't know anybody who collects them now, oh and I forgot teaspoons I remember somebody collecting teaspoons, I often see those in the opp shops, somebodys treasured collection.

Happy Mothers day to all those Mums out there especially the ones in a one parent household, like mine. Im remembering my Mother with love today even though she passed away 18 months ago she is never far away. I feel her near me so often especially when times can be tough, this morning I checked my tattslotto and I won $33.00 woo hoo but Im sure it was from Mum as the number 3 after Mums death was allways appearing.
My son made me breakfast in bed which was nice it was his favourite toast with turkey with piles of bbq sauce lol.
I thought a trip to the local trash and treasure would be nice it was looking good we got a park right out the front. Next minute there were tears  India had jammed Tylers finger in the door of the car..... oh great I don't think it really was that serious but he did make a huge drama of , I couldn't even see a mark on his finger
They were fine once inside after Tyler having some South Melbourne market dim sims and India having some Indian samosas all was honky dory once more.
Yes its mothers day, and they scored a couple of little treats I thought to myself that's it Im buying a rose for my garden

I love the deep burgundy.
Ive had several Mothers day wishes from lovely friends which was nice.
A call from my daughter in Melbourne which was nice.
A trip to the Mill Market in Ballarat and Daylesford to browse the collectables with Dad and the kids

Juicing

The cold weather is approaching and the weeks have been hectic with some very eventful times to say the least. I think its very important in times of stress to get regular exercise and eat well and take vitamins. Hence today I am stocking up on health food.
I absolutely love my juicer and it is very easy to clean and just drinking it feels good.
My father thinks Im a nut job and told me its disgusting and couldn't believe I gave it to the kids lol but my father is just not into healthy foods at all, but I love them.

His little joke is I should be reported for feeding kids this drink

My favourite is ginger, beetroot, carrot, celery (leaves and all) apple and orange all blended served with ice. Its the most refreshing drink and packed with vitamins.

Just a quick blog, this week while shopping at Aldi I thought I would pick up their eyeliner kohl pencil, Lacura brand it was only $4.99 I thought if I didn't like it I could give it to my daughter, well it turns out I recommend this it glides on lovely and comes with a sharpener and all for only $4.99 its my new favourite eyeliner

                       Guinea pigs in the organic garden

I love these little creatures, gentle little souls they are.
There are many different types of guinea pigs my favourite at the moment is the mini sheba yaks, only because they look like they are having a bad hair day.
Guinea pigs to me are useful little pets as I have no dig gardens and they produce manure and urine soaked newspaper that gets used for mulch or into the compost heap to rot down, also I move the cages around the lawn and it saves on mowing.
They are an easy little pet to look after but I do suggest keeping more than one as they love company.
My whole garden out the back is made from cleaning cages and compost.
Cages should be cleaned once a week, and water bottles and food topped up every day.
I give my little pigs extra treats as they need vitamin C to stay healthy, oranges, kiwi fruit, capsicum, cauli, bok choy, silverbeet, apples, if I notice there are patches of long grass in spots I pick that and give to them, when ever Im in the backyard they start squarking for grass.

This group in photo are all girls, I love the little chocolate and white one I will be keeping her, these girls are only a week old, they usually go to new homes at 5- 6 weeks I like to home 2 at a time if I have enough to go together of the same sex.

 

Here is some edging that I salvaged from my Dads house I couldn't see it go to waste so I pinned it all down and will start to layer it with guinea pig waste, newspaper a bit of horse poo and compost and pea straw, will keep updated with the results , it wont be ready for a while though.

 

On the weekend we decided to make a fire pit so we can also use the ash to place on the garden.

Its a bit rough but it does the job and its fun, looking forward to damper, potatoes and marshmallows

A quick post

                                 Lazy day

Not much doing today I think I have an ear infection as Ive had an earache all night and one side of throat and gum is sore, hence no sleep last night.
The best remedy for sore tooth or gum to relieve the pain is clove oil , this stuff is amazing I allways have a bottle on hand for myself or the kids it numbs it straight away, I also use clove oil for cleaning mould of windows upstairs that get damp in the winter

Friday is usually my day to oppshop but Im a bit under the weather and its cold and windy outside so I have just layed around reading my new collection of Earth Garden magazines and getting ideas for all the things I would like to do around the yard.
Even thought I didn't opp shop my Dad called in and he had found some cool canisters for me so I still scored a bargain

 Just love the retro yellow, he did buy them for me to resell but I quite like these so they will stay a while.

 Did I mention I love Macrobertsons

Yoghurt

Home made yoghurt

My kids are getting a bit fussy at breakfast time and I don't buy a lot of sugary cereals, so I thought I would make some home made yoghurt that they can add what they like to it.

 After tea last night  sterilized a couple of jars in the oven, so that warmed up the oven just nicely.
Then I put 1 litre of milk in a saucepan and heated it to 80 degrees then remove milk from stovetop to cool until 45 degrees. Then add 1/2 cup of natural yoghurt and 1/2 cup of milk powder and stir well.
Pour the mixture into the jars and wrap in a tea towel and place in a warm spot over night or 12 hours.
Save some of this yoghurt to use as your next starter when you make this yoghurt again then you don't have to purchase yoghurt.
My kids love this with golden syrup or honey, I have some logan berrys which I will mix with it tomorrow.
