Ducks

 Who could resist, um well not me anyway.
These are my two new beautiful girls , I went to the rural lifestyle expo and I couldnt resist these two. The man told me they were appleyard ducks. But Im pretty sure they look like Indian Runner ducks. The photo of the duck above is the cheekiest I havnt named them yet but they have a ball in their little pool they are just so cute to wash.

 Now Gerti always walks right under my feet she is the chook who has to have pats or a nurse she just needs to know what Im doing . I have to be careful with her at the moment as I have bursitis in my knee and Im supposed to be resting and be very careful with it so no tripping over anything or anyone.

 Finally broad beans starting to shoot , I made sure I showed Dad as he loves these.

 My son didnt want to go to the expo so he went for a ride with his Dad as he had bought a new bike and its a novelty at the moment.

 My strict instructions hold on tight and drive slow real slow.

Taking a walk around the garden there isnt much left in bloom.

A couple of dahlias although I must say the bushes a full of blooms and I bring these inside all the time in vases in my reiki room and on the kitchen table

I did buy a yellow dahlia bush at the flower show but there are no flowers on it as yet.

Im not sure how much work will get done in the school holidays , school has just finished today and I already have a nagger on my hands. This better not be a sign of things to come in the next two weeks

I am a lazy gardener

I think Im the most lazy gardener I dont like to dig, and when I read about lasagna gardening and no dig gardens well... they were the gardens for me.
In this house things get done gradually and most of my yard is done bit by bit all by me so its a work in progress all the time and there is always something to do. There is nothing flash in this back yard everything is mainly from recycled materials.  My back yard is on a sloping hill and is terrible to mow as there are rocks popping up through the earth.  In the picture below I decided to plant fruit trees and place a garden around them so I dont have to mow around them. Eventually the dead looking grass will be replaced by crushed rock so its a bit like a food forrest.
As you can see the garden isnt quite finished I start of with cardboard then heaps of horse manure then I have the waste from the chicken pen, compost and then I will finish of with some mushroom compost and peastraw. But its still a work in progress oh and then there is what plants will I plant around the fruit trees.

 This one above is also still a work in progress I only have cardboard and horse manure on this so far.

 Im still working on this one above, Im upto putting on the mushroom compost then plants

 This is the same one but further down the yard it needs a top up of compost as well and gravel where the dead grass is.

 You get the general idea I just dont dig this was all just placed on top of the grass, the photos are not that great but you get the idea.

 I had somebody make these vege beds from old pallets

 This is just outside the chook pen and its the same idea no dig just compost. Im slowly filling them with plants

Sunday rest day

Its nice to actually get a day at home pottering around outside I really need it for balance in my life, I dont actually rest as I find that a bit boring I have to be doing something always.
But just to be at home and potter in the garden is lovely .
The day started out cleaning out rabbit pens and chook pens.

 Which is great for the gardens lovely rich mulch.

 This is Cadbury he looks forward to his time out I suppose all bunnies do. I try to let them free range as much as possible.

 These girls were my first ever chooks they are so friendly and love a nurse.

Linda you would be proud of me. This is all I bought at the flower show and today Im planting

 My partner bought me this for my reiki room, its a air plant in amethyst.

 I thought it appropriate to pop these little chickies by the chicken pen.

 The comfrey is all starting to die down now.

 I have never seen lime balm, I have lemon balm growing madly I hope this lime balm takes of too

 I have no idea what sort of pumpkins I planted but I think they are just about ready.

 My kale and silverbeet coming along, Im looking forward to making kale chips. I mainly grow silverbeet for for the chooks and rabbits.

 My dahlia flower which is one of my favorites I really would love more colors , I bought a yellow one at the flower show.

 Todays harvest of grapes and there is still heaps on the vine. This grape vine was a cutting from my Aunties house and they are the most beautiful sweetest grapes.

 So we spent the afternoon removing them from the vines

The final result a mess and Im lucky I dont have to do these as this mess is for India and Tyler as India wanted phone credit and Tyler wanted a game and they didnt have enough cash so they have to work it off. So this weekend is a bonus I have had pets bathed, I havnt had to do a dish all weekend, vaccuming done.
I must say they did look at this pile of dishes and said oh no and my response was "do you want me to take your phone and game." hmmmm I thought not
